Small Tree, Big Care: Where Personalized Care Meets Affordability
Meet Small Tree, formerly known as Bug Hunter
Bug Hunter originated as the plant health care division within Eric’s Tree Care, a company owned by Eric Bishop. Under Eric’s ownership, the plant health care segment was led by Joe Campbell. When Eric opted to sell Eric’s Tree Care, Joe ventured independently, continuing to offer plant health care services in the Albuquerque area under the name Bug Hunter.
After years of successful operations, Joe made the decision to retire and sell Bug Hunter. This pivotal moment led to the entry of Ken and DeAnna Haydon into the narrative. Ken’s extensive experience in the tree care industry in the Midwest made him an ideal candidate to take over from Joe. With Ken and DeAnna at the helm for two years, the company underwent a rebranding, emerging as Small Tree LLC. This marked a new chapter in the company’s journey under the capable leadership of the Haydons.

Ken
Ken embarked on his career in Minnesota with Asplundh Tree Co., the world’s largest tree company specializing in power line and utility clearance. Over seven years in the line clearance sector, he honed proper and safe climbing and pruning techniques around power lines, learning from seasoned tree workers. Ken also mastered the operation of chainsaws, boom trucks, and chippers during this tenure.
Upon relocating to Omaha, NE, he shifted gears to residential tree work. Here, Ken expanded his skill set to include operating skid steers, becoming a crane operator specializing in tree removals, and assuming the role of a tree crew leader. He delved into the art of writing bids and designing jobs, showcasing his versatility.
During this phase, Ken developed expertise in identifying and addressing insects and diseases affecting trees and shrubs, gaining insights into effective treatment strategies. With 22 years of comprehensive experience and holding a commercial pesticide applicator license, Ken now leads Small Tree LLC, overseeing all their tree care initiatives in the Albuquerque area.

DeAnna
DeAnna, is Ken’s wife and co-owner of Small Tree LLC, brings over 15 years of experience in accounting and administration to the table. Her skills make her well-suited to handle Small Tree’s financial records and oversee the company’s database. Beyond her proficiency in office management, DeAnna also possesses a background in coordinating and leading flooring crews. Her hands-on approach, coupled with a willingness to work outdoors, reflects her commitment to getting the job done. With a genuine love for plants and trees, DeAnna emerges as the ideal partner in co-managing a tree care company.

Bugger
Meet Bugger, the unsung hero of our crew, the tree spray truck with a personality as vibrant as the trees and shrubs it serves. Bugger isn’t just any old truck; it’s the swaggering workhorse of our company. With a name that hints at its mischievous nature, Bugger doesn’t just spray trees; it spritzes them with a dose of whimsy and efficiency. Picture this: a colossal tank for holding the magic elixir that keeps our leafy friends thriving, topped off with a nozzle arm that stretches out like an eager handshake. But here’s where Bugger truly shines – its uncanny ability to navigate through the gnarliest of terrain with the grace of a ballerina and the tenacity of a bulldog. So, next time you see Bugger rumbling down the lane, give it a nod of appreciation for being the unsung hero of your green realm.

She receives ample rewards in the form of treats and affection as generous compensation for her positive influence on the team.
